The Lion is a sign of strength and power. It is probably the one and only animal in the world that is feared by humans as well as the vast majority of animals. Most people are fascinated with the kind of power and might that the king of the jungle signifies.
A lot of people interested in tattoo art and Lions often combine their interest in both by having a tattoo depicting a Lion as the key feature of their tattoo. There are so many different meanings and interpretations given to the Lion tattoo many of which have been around since the ancient times.
Here are some of the more popular symbolism that a lion tattoo represents. Some of the meanings have quite esoteric and magical origins while others are quite cultural.
Leo The Zodiac
One of the most popular lion tattoos that we often see adorning bodies is the zodiac sign for Leo which is clearly represented by a Lion. For those people born between the dates of July 23 to August 22 each year the sign of the Lion is a constant reminder of what qualities Leos are supposed to display. The true-born Leo is acknowledged to be brave and powerful just like the Lion. In addition Leos are seen to be very much opinionated and direct in nature. If you are a Leo and are keen on getting a tattoo then you should give serious consideration to having a Lion included in your tattoo.
Ancient Beliefs
As well as being representative of a persons Zodiac sign the Lion tattoo is also known to have a connection with ancient beliefs. Some of these beliefs are incorporated within religious contexts while other beliefs are connected to ancient mythology. You can see examples of this where you can go to both Western and Eastern cultures and see how the symbol of the lion is revered as being a sign of something that is highly sacred and powerful.
A brilliant example of the importance placed on the symbol of a Lion used in tattoos in both ancient Chinese and Japanese times was where the persons wearing Lion tattoos exuded strength and power.
The Lion symbol also has Royal connotations particularly through the use of the words ‘the king of the beasts’ when referring to Lions and their status in the animal World.
If you were born under the Zodiac sign Leo or just see your self as a natural leader then you are a perfect candidate to have a Lion tattoo.
