Why On Earth Get An Angel Tattoo? If you are considering getting a tattoo, you might want to consider an angel tattoo. Angel’s are not just fat little babies as pictured in those famous Renaissance paintings you see in the Art Gallery. An angel tattoo is any figure or creature that has a pair of wings (usually bird wings). The angel you choose for your tattoo can be naked, clad or partially clothed, androgynous, sultry, protective or it could even be an image of an animal with wings. You don’t have to be of any particular ethnicity or religion to appreciate a good angel tattoo. An Angel Tattoo Is A Universal Symbol
Angels are a feature of most of the major religions of the world. They are mentioned in Hinduism, the Koran, as well as the teachings of Christianity and Judaism. The Angel’s wings are usually attributed to the invisible spiritual realms.
Much of the early art painted by artists from all over the world featured winged men or winged people of some sort. Depending on how you were raised, angels are often the figure attributed to those who have passed from Earth.
Alternatively you might consider angels to be a distinct spiritual species which just happen to look over us humans. Since Angels are believed to act as messengers and intercessors in so many religions, many New Age and Pagan belief systems incorporate a belief of angels in their teachings. In fact a Time magazine poll conducted in the 1990’s found that more people believe in angels than believe in the existence of God.
Animal Angels
In the cable reality show Miami Ink, a large percentage of those who followed the show chose to have their first tattoos as images of their deceased pets. Often they altered the pet’s appearance slightly by adding wings and sometimes even included a halo. Angel tattoos are usually socially acceptable for almost every Western culture. They can also be worn as a loving memorial to a much missed family member.
Guardian Angels
Most cultures have traditions of an invisible spirit watching over us. This spirit is sent to protect us and especially our children. Christians and particularly Pagans believe in guardian angels, where a particular angel’s job is to guard and protect you but not interfere with your own individual power of free will. Some people choose a guardian angel tattoo to remind themselves that they have an angel watching over them, or even as a reminder to commemorate being saved from a particularly desperate situation in the past.
Other reasons people might get an angel tattoo include living in the city of angles, Los Angeles or those who want a tattoo of a nude woman on their bodies or those people who were avid fans of the cult show Charlie’s Angels. What ever is your reason for getting an angel tattoo make sure the one you choose clearly conveys your intention and message.
