People often associate those who have tattoos with criminal activity or being socially outcast. That misconception is rapidly changing as more and more people from all walks of life are wearing tattoos. This form of body modification has always been a part of society and culture.Tattoos have assumed a wide number of roles in various societies and cultures over the years. In some circles they signified a rite of passage, while in others they displayed what tribe you belonged to. Other meanings have included skills possessed or a means to ward of illness and disease.
